“Law & Order: SVU” returns to NBC on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 9 p.m. EDT for it’s staggering 16th season. The long-running cop procedural spin-off is famous for taking its storylines straight out of the newspapers and bringing in great guest stars for its episodic crime stories.

Check out 10 of the upcoming celebrity guest star appearances for the first three episodes of “Law & Order: SVU” Season 16:

Peter Scanavino

Scanavino, known for "Frances Ha," will appear in three episodes of "Law & Order: SVU" this season. The actor will tackle the role of Detective Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr., the newly appointed commanding officer of the Manhattan SVU unit. Scanavino will appear in the premiere episode, however fans should note that he also appeared in the long-running series in Season 14 as a different character.

Peter Gallagher

Gallagher, best known for his role as Sandy Cohen on "The O.C.," will guest star in a handful of Season 16 episodes. The actor will play Deputy Chief William Dodds, head of all SVU units in New York City.

Teri Polo

Polo of “The Fosters” and "Meet the Fockers," will appear in episode 2, "American Disgrace." Her character is Cordelia Bauer, the daughter (and business partner) of a billionaire accused of rape.

Stacy Keach

Keach, known for his role as Ken Titus in “Titus," will guest as billionare Orion Bauer in the Season 16 episode "American Disgrace." Bauer is accused of rape by multiple women in the episode while announcing a new clothing line release with his daughter (Teri Polo).

Henry Simmons

Simmons, best known for his role as Detective Baldwin Jones in “NYPD Blue," will appear in the Season 16 episode "American Disgrace." He will play a character named Shakir Wilkins.

Sandy Duncan

Duncan, best known for her role as Sandy Hogan on "Valerie," will appear in the Season 16 episode, "American Disgrace." Duncan will play the judge in the case of a billionaire (Stacy Keach) accused of rape.

Ron Rifkin

Rifkin, known for his role as Arvin Sloane in “Alias," will appear in episode 3 of Season 16, “Producer’s Backend.” Rifkin will reprise his role from multiple 2012 episodes as lawyer Marvin Exley.

Hoda Kotb

The “Today Show” host will appear as herself in episode 3 of Season 16, “Producer’s Backend.”

Brian D’Arcy James

D’Arcy James, known for his role as Frank in "Smash," will appear in episode 3, "Producer’s Backend." James will play a character named Adam Brubeck who is a person of interest in a case of statuatory rape.

Stevie Lynn Jones

Jones, best known for her role as Beth in "Crisis," will play Tensley Evans in episode 3, "Producer's Backend." Evans is a 15-year old girl and a victim of statuatory rape.
