Royal fans eager for a glimpse into life in the family’s homes have been granted a small part of their wish thanks to Kate Middleton, after the Duchess of Cambridge gave a small glimpse into the living room of her Kensington Palace residence during a recent video chat.

Middleton, 38, took part in a video chat with the families of British Armed Forced members in honor of Remembrance Week, and in the video, which was posted to the official Kensington Palace Instagram page, a small glimpse at the home she shares with Prince William and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—was also shared.

In the video, the Duchess was seen sitting on a cream-colored couch with red decorative pillows, and as the camera angle changed, various elements of room décor were also glimpsed.

Not only did fans see three different life fixtures along the wall and two paintings in gold frames, but at one point, a bronze pot with white flowers and a blue and white vase were also seen.

However, the biggest glimpse was at a collection of family photographs that were behind Middleton. Among them were images of her husband on his 2018 trip to Africa, first day of school photos of her two eldest children, Prince George’s birthday picture and an image of the Duchess herself with Prince Louis at the Chelsea Flower Show garden were also featured.

The glimpse was a rare look at a royal residence, as the family tends to keep their private quarters away from the public eye, though some of their other quirks have been made public over the years—including how various members of the family attempt to save money. In terms of décor, the Queen has been known to patch up damaged walls at Balmoral Castle with wallpaper, while Middleton and Prince William revealed a few years ago that the furniture in their children's bedrooms at Amner Hall was partially from an IKEA store.

The photos were also a treat for fans because while Middleton’s photography is often seen with official family photos released that she has taken, the way that photos are seen sometimes has sparked debate—especially when images of members of the family aren’t seen.

In October 2019, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a documentary where they admitted the struggles they had faced, but prior to their announcement they were stepping away from royal life, much was made about the couple’s photo reportedly being removed from Buckingham Palace’s Audience Room.
