The LIV Golf Invitational Series continues to grab some of the sport’s top stars. According to reports Monday, Cameron Smith and Henrik Stenson could be the latest players to join the controversial tour.

The news came just as Smith won the 2022 British Open Sunday in dramatic fashion. Stenson won the Open Championship in 2016 and was picked as the 2023 European Ryder Cup Captain.

Smith overcame a four-stroke deficit in Sunday’s final round, shooting eight-under-par and winning the year’s last major championship. The 28-year-old moved up to No. 2 in the world golf rankings, trailing only No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

“I just won the British Open, and you’re asking about that?” Smith told a reporter, who asked the British champion if he was interested in joining LIV Golf. “I think that’s pretty not that good.”

When pressed on the matter, Smith continued to talk around the question.

“I don’t know, mate,” Smith said. “My team around me worries about all that stuff. I’m here to win golf tournaments.”

No. 16 Dustin Johnson is the highest ranked player who has participated in a LIV Golf event. The next tournament is scheduled for July 29-31 at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Stenson is expected to join LIV Golf and be replaced as Team Europe’s captain in the Ryder Cup, according to Jamie Weir of Sky Sports. In addition to his British Open championship, Stenson has five PGA Tour wins and 10 European Tour victories on his resume.

Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are among the other marquee names who are already part of LIV Golf.
