  • Liverpool players were together in a hotel when they were declared the 2019-20 champions
  • The whereabouts were not revealed fearing fans would flock the place
  • This is Liverpool's first-ever Premier League title

Liverpool players and boss Jurgen Klopp gathered in a "secret" hotel to watch the Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Manchester City on Thursday.

A win for Chelsea or even a draw at Stamford Bridge would have been enough to end Liverpool’s 30-year wait to clinch their 19th league title. Fortunately for Klopp and Co., Chelsea beat defending champions Man City 2-1 and confirmed "the Reds" as champions in what has been an extraordinary season for them where they have dropped just seven points. Liverpool have won the league with seven games to spare, a record in England's top-flight league.

A video showed the players including Adam Lallana, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, captain Jordan Henderson, and Sadio Mane performing a drum-roll for the final seconds of the Chelsea-Man City match as they sat together as a group in an outdoor seating area at the hotel.

After Liverpool were officially announced the 2019-20 Premier League champions, Henderson was quizzed about the whereabouts of the players by a reporter, who was on a video call with him, but the skipper chose to keep it as a secret as they feared thousands of fans would turn up to join them in the celebrations that had just begun.

It was Liverpool’s first league title in as long as 30 years and their first-ever Premier League trophy. With 19 league titles to their name, they are just behind Manchester United (20 titles) in the list of most English top-flight titles.

In an interview with BBC, 26-year-old Roberton revealed that the players were trying to convince Klopp to give them a few days off to thoroughly soak in the special moments.

“We're still trying to convince the boss downstairs to give us a few days off! Give him a couple more beers and I think we'll get two days off,” Robertson, who has been a vital member in the title-winning squad, added cheekily.

When Van Dijk was speaking to BT Sport, other players such as Roberton, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, and Alisson Becker to name a few mobbed the defender. The party mood continued as the BT Spot anchors witnessed the happy faces break into future celebrations.

Meanwhile, a tearful Liverpool boss Klopp was forced to cut short his interview as he admitted, "I have no real words. I never would have thought I would feel like this. It is easy for me to motivate the team because of our great history. This is for you [fans] out there. I hope you stay at home. Celebrate at the front of your house.”
