Three men are dead and at least nine people are injured after gunfire erupted Tuesday night at a Halloween party in Southern California, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred at 10:45 p.m. at a home in Long Beach, a city roughly 25 miles south of Los Angeles. Police told local media that they are looking for several suspects and have not found a motive. It is also unclear whether more than one weapon was fired and if there was more than one gunman but police believe that shooter fired from an alleyway before fleeing in a getaway car.

The three men who were killed were in their mid-20s. Seven of the nine injured were women and all were between the ages of 20 and 49 and injured by gunshot wounds. Five of the injured are facing life-threatening conditions.

Witnesses said that they heard about 20 gunshots.

Long Beach Police said some of the partygoers were wearing Halloween costumes and that it also was a birthday party. The 25 to 30 partygoers may have been co-workers.

The shooting occurred next to a nail salon, in front of which paramedics treated some of the victims. The neighborhood is described as a mix of homes and businesses.
