  • Floyd Mayweather believes his undefeated record makes him the best athlete
  • He slams LeBron James for being backed up by big companies
  • AP named LeBron James Athlete of the Decade at the end of 2019

LeBron James was named by the Associated Press as the Male Athlete of the Decade while Serena Williams was named as the Female Athlete of the Year just over a month ago. While everybody are giving praise to “The King”, someone thinks someone deserves the distinction better than LeBron.

Undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr. said in an interview that there is no doubt in his mind that the best sportsman of the past decade should have been him and not the Basketball superstar. On a Drink Champs interview posted on REVOLT TV YouTube Channel, the 42-year old boxer shared his opinion about being snubbed of the recognition.

"I love LeBron James but when we talking about Athlete of the Decade, that's me. That's me. Hands down," said Mayweather. "We talking about from 1996 to 2020 … and I've never received Athlete of the Decade," he added. "At the top of Forbes and I'm my own boss."

Floyd also pointed out that he does not rely on sponsorships, unlike the Los Angeles Lakers superstar. “No Gatorade behind me, no Sprite behind me, no Nike behind me. These are billion-dollar companies and we like to call it placement,” revealed Mayweather. “So if they (are) paying, you get what you want if you’re paying enough.”

“Just honestly, I’m the athlete of the decade … and last two decades, actually,” Floyd concluded.

On the Associated Press press release, LeBron was the runaway winner over runner-up Tom Brady, Usain Bolt, football superstar Lionel Messi, and swimmer Michael Phelps. He now joins the elite company that includes Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, and Arnold Palmer.

AP recognized the achievements of the Akron, OH native James which includes eight straight NBA finals appearance, won championships in Miami and hometown Cleveland, and started his own school – The I Promise School – which was built for “students who are already falling behind and in danger of falling through the cracks” as mentioned in their school’s website.
