"Love Island" couple Mackenzie Dipman and Connor Trott have decided to call it quits after a few months of dating.

Dipman and Trott met on "Love Island" Season 2. When they were eliminated from the show before the season ended, they continued their romance after leaving the villa. However, after giving their relationship a chance for less than six months, Trott and Dipman have now split as they move forward with their respective careers.

The reality stars released a joint statement on their respective Instagram Stories Saturday for those who "have been wondering about us and our relationship." They hoped to help fans "understand where we are right now."

"We are both young and in the early stages of careers, and sadly those careers are keeping us in two different places. One of us is in Pittsburgh and the other is in Tucson, and neither of us will be able to move anytime in the near future," Trott and Dipman wrote.

"So over the last couple of weeks we have started having some difficult conversations about our future. Ultimately we both realized that our lives are moving in different directions," they continued. "We have both made commitments to cities that are over 2,000 miles apart."

The "Love Island" stars stressed that the decision had not been easy for them to make because they have so much love for each other. They had hoped to make things work, but "relationships are all about timing, and this is just not our time."

Trott and Dipman also expressed their gratitude to their supporters for the love and support they have received and said they hope they would continue to support them individually.

While the two were uncertain of their future, Trott and Dipman were certain about one thing — "we will always have each other. And we will forever be grateful that Love Island brought us together."

In September, Trott opened up about his feelings for Dipman when he spoke with Entertainment Tonight. He admitted that he loved her and was hoping that things would work out despite them living away from each other.

Trott is on the East Coast, while Dipman is living on the opposite side of the country. They knew that if they moved forward with their romance, it would be a long-distance relationship at the start.

"Do I love Mackenzie?" Connor asked. "I would say I do love Mackenzie, and I told her that as she was leaving actually. I know that is a very big deal and loaded statement to make but that is, I think, how I truly feel towards her. I hope I can continue to grow those feelings."
