A man was arrested over the weekend after he was caught on camera abandoning his three-year-old son outside a shop in eastern China's Shandong Province on Nov.16.

CCTV footage of the incident released by the police showed the father, identified as 53-year-old Qu, carrying a duffel bag and walking toward the shop. He then abandons the bag in front of the shop and walks off. Close to an hour later, another man wearing a helmet, reportedly a worker at the shop, finds the bag. He then picks it up and leaves it outside a nearby restaurant.

According to reports, the incident came to light four hours later, when the boy climbed out of the bag and started crying. The onlookers immediately alerted the police. While searching, the responding officers found a note inside the duffel bag. The note, written by Qu, stated that the boy was born out of wedlock and his wife abandoned them. Claiming to have no income, the man said he couldn’t afford to raise the boy and hoped some kind-hearted people would adopt his son.

The man was taken into custody over the weekend, however, has not been formally charged. Meanwhile, the unidentified boy was taken to a local hospital for a check-up and was found healthy. He was then taken to Qingdao Children's Welfare Institution where he was being looked after.
