Man 'Accidentally' Shot Son During Argument Over Kicking His Pet Dogs

A man from Phoenix was arrested Monday after he “accidentally” shot his son during an argument over his pet dogs.

According to the court documents, Phoenix police responded to 66-year-old Carl Myrick’s home Monday morning after receiving reports of a shooting. When the officials arrived, they found Myrick’s 29-year-old son on the porch of the home with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Myrick told the officers he was very upset at his son for kicking his pet dogs "multiple times.” When confronted, the son allegedly punched him a couple of times in the chest, AZ Central reported.

Myrick went back to his home to get his handgun and then yelled at his son to leave while shaking the gun in the air. The handgun accidentally discharged, hitting the son in the chest. Myrick said he did not realize what had happened until he saw blood coming out from his son’s nose and mouth.

Myrick told the officers the shooting was an accident and "that he loved his son and would never hurt him,” the court documents said.

A friend of Myrick, who stayed with them, said she saw the victim kick the dogs. She said the two got into an argument post the incident and Myrick go into the house and brought a handgun. Myrick then raised the weapon in an upward movement. However, when she thought he was going to fire into the air, the gun went off.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent treatment. He spoke to the investigators but refused to be interviewed.

Meanwhile, Myrick was taken into custody and held at the Fourth Avenue Jail on a $20,000 bond. He was charged with “aggravated assault” and “unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits.”

In a similar incident in April, a man killed his neighbor following an argument over his pet dog in New Delhi. Suresh and his family were angry at their neighbor for beating their pet dog for defecating in front of the latter's home. The family members lashed out at the neighbor over the issue during which the latter misbehaved with Suresh’s father. On learning about the fight, Suresh brought an axe from his home and swung it at his neighbor, who collapsed. The neighbor succumbed to injuries two days later.
