A 31-year-old man was taken into custody after police received a desperate call for help from his mother who was later found fatally stabbed in her Fair Lawn home, New Jersey, on Sunday afternoon.

Officials with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said Ann Kaplan, 61, called the police during an apparent dispute with her son Eric Daniel Kaplan at 3 p.m. EDT Sunday. Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said police reached the scene and seized a "family member" who lived in the same house. The victim was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey.

"Upon entering the house, police discovered a female resident had been stabbed," Calo said, local daily NJ News reported.

Police records show that the accused was arrested two years back for stabbing his brother with a knife.

Eugene Bouton, a 22-year Fair Lawn resident, said, "I heard that they argued once in a while.” Another resident said that the family had some issues.

"It is a very nice, quiet neighborhood. You always say you don’t expect it to happen around us,” a neighbor said, adding that the lawn in Kaplan's compound would often grow long, or leaves would remain scattered but there was nothing suspicious about it, local daily North Jersey reported.

The incident is being investigated jointly by Calo's Major Crimes Unit and Fair Lawn police. The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification is assisting them in gathering evidence, local daily Fair Lawn Daily Voice reported.

This is the second such incident in Fair Lawn in two weeks. On June 27, the brother of New York Giants' cornerback Janoris Jenkins was charged with aggravated manslaughter for killing music producer Roosevelt Rene during a fight in Fair Lawn.

William Jenkins, 34, was taken into custody in Ontario County, New York, after Rene was found in the basement of the Van Saun Place home, where Jenkins lived. Police records showed that he was previously arrested in 2006 and again in 2011 on charges of drug abuse and was paroled from prison in July 2016.

According to Florida prison records, William was also convicted of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in 2003 for stabbing a man during a brawl at a high school football game. He was also convicted in a burglary or attempted burglary and grand theft of $100 to $300, USA Today reported. He served a total two years and six months in prison for multiple convictions.

In April, a 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his mother to death and critically injuring his father in San Juan Capistrano, California. Police officials found Yihong Peng standing with a bloodied knife in the neighborhood and booked him into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder.

"Deputies arrived at the scene within one minute and located two victims, both with stab wounds, and observed the suspect attempting to flee the scene," Orange County Sheriff's Department Public Information Manager Carrie Braun said adding “Following a short foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody,” NBC reported.
