A man arrested for raping a goat in a field in the African nation of Malawi on Wednesday claimed he asked the animal for permission to have sex with it.

The goat’s owner initially thought Kennedy Kambani, 21, was trying to steal the animal, however, when he returned to the field with some neighbors to catch the man, he saw him having sex with it.

“The owner Mr. Pemphero Mwakhulika thought Kambani was stealing it. So he alerted the people. When they arrived at the scene they were shocked to see him having sexual intercourse with the goat,” Police Inspector Lubrino Kaitano said, Daily Mail reported.

The man was immediately caught and taken to police station where he was charged with bestiality. When questioned, Kambani told police he had asked the animal’s permission first to have sexual intercourse with it.

The gender of the animal was not disclosed.

This is not the first time a man was arrested for carrying out the vile act. In November 2018, a 22-year-old man was sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labor for raping his friend’s pregnant goat in Kasama, Zambia. Ronald Mwenya, the complainant, heard the goat bleating and went to check on the animal with a few friends. He then saw the accused, Reuben Mwaba, in kneeling position, naked having sex with the animal. He then pulled away Mwaba from the goat and took him to police station where he was arrested and charged with bestiality, the Lusaka Times reported.

In another incident in Winterveldt, South Africa, a 33-year-old man was found guilty of raping his neighbor’s pregnant goat in his bed. Feselani Mcube, the accused, stole the animal from his neighbor’s farm and raped the goat the entire night. The animal’s owner was shattered to see it in a bad state the next day.

“I felt I should have done something to protect her,” the owner said, Mirror reported.

He said he heard noises at night but didn’t take it seriously. "I thought maybe it was about to give birth since it was pregnant,” he said.

“I went around the community looking without any success. Later, when I returned home, I found the goat was back. However, it looked unwell,” he added.

While he was examining the goat, a man approached and told him he had seen the animal at Mcube’s shack that morning. He then confronted the accused and took him to the police station where he was arrested.
