A man caught licking an open tub of Blue Bell Ice cream was fined $2,000 and sentenced to 30 days in jail.

D'Adrien L'Quinn Anderson, 24, of Port Arthur, Texas was charged with criminal mischief for filming himself licking a half-gallon of vanilla Blue Bell ice cream in August.

He pleaded guilty and was told to pay a fine of $1,000 and restitution of $1,565 to Blue Bell Creameries, the Jefferson COunty District's Attorney's Office said in a statement reported by CNN.

Anderson said that he only did the act to go viral but the Attorney's Office said that it was more than a stunt and more of being a copycat to several videos of "ice cream lickers" that went viral.

The offender justified his actions by claiming that he bought the ice cream tub that he licked but according to the court, this affected the company strongly and led them to replace all half-gallons of the ice cream flavor that was seen in the video.

"Food tampering is not a joke, and we will not tolerate tampering with our products," Blue Bell Creameries said.

The licking of open containers of Blue Bell Ice Cream and returning them back to the shelves and the freezers was a trend in the summer of 2019 that became one of the acts performed by those who wanted to go viral.
