A man has miraculously survived after being struck by lightning in Indonesia. The incident was captured in a now-viral video.

The 35-year-old man, who was working as a security guard for a company in Jakarta, was on duty when the incident took place, reported DNA India.

As seen in the CCTV footage, he was walking in the rain while holding an umbrella. Lightning struck him moments later and sparks exploded instantly. He was then seen lying motionless on the ground as other people rushed toward him to help.

The man's colleagues immediately took him to a local hospital, where he was treated for burns, particularly on his hands. He was released from the hospital after receiving treatment. He is currently recovering at his home, according to India Times.

Meanwhile, the video of the incident has gone viral on social media. While some people believe the walkie-talkie the man was holding may have attracted the lightning discharge, others put the blame on his umbrella.

Warning: This video might be disturbing to some viewers

"Security officer in Jakarta was struck by lightning while on duty, avoid using radio and cellular telephones when it is raining, the condition of the victim survived after treatment. Not everyone has the same chance to live," the person who shared the video wrote.

"I don't think so. If you look at a lightning arrester on top of buildings it is shaped like an umbrella for a good reason. It attracts lightning. He was probably saved because the lightning bolt went down his arm and into his legs bypassing his vital organs," another person said in response.

Another netizen chimed in, noting, "Never use an umbrella in a thunderstorm. It's a perfect lightning arrester."

Earlier this year, a teenager in Queensland, Australia, survived after being hit by a lightning strike, thanks to his footwear. Talyn Rose, 14, was walking to school when lightning bounced off a nearby pole and struck his foot. He was rushed to a local hospital where doctors confirmed that he was completely fine besides suffering some burns. They said the thick rubber soles of the boy's shoes absorbed a lot of the shock from the strike and saved his life.
