In a double murder-suicide incident in India, a man strangled his 1-year-old baby and wife to death before killing himself.

The 28-year-old man, who worked as a bouncer, committed the murders Thursday after a domestic dispute. According to The Times of India, the man, identified as Ramesh Kadyan, had an argument with his wife after which he killed her and the child inside their home in the northern city of Panipat. Then, he called a friend and contacted the police to confess to the murders.

The bodies of the woman and the child was found by the Kadyan's father, who told the police he was not at home when the attack took place.

The bouncer's body was recovered from the railway tracks. The police sent the bodies of the victims for autopsy and launched an investigation into the case.

Local media reported Kadyan had lost his job during the COVID-19 lockdown in the country and was staying at home for the past one and half months. He had married his wife Anu in 2018, and the couple began facing issues recently. Kadyan was reportedly depressed. Authorities said details behind the exact motive would be revealed after the investigation is completed.

According to a report, complaints of domestic violence to the National Commission for Women rose sharply in 2020 when most people were forced to stay home due to the nationwide lockdown imposed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The numbers rose sharply from 2,960 in 2019 to 5,297 in 2020.

Last month, a father killed his 10-year-old boy for intervening in a fight between the man and his wife. The incident took place in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The police said the accused, identified as Shaukeen Adivasi, was drunk and began quarrelling with his wife. He also reportedly beat her up several times. Their son, who was sleeping in the same room, woke up after hearing the noise and went to save his mother. Adivasi got furious and assaulted the boy. The child later died, and the father fled the scene.
