A 10-year-old boy in India was killed by his father for intervening in a fight between the man and his wife.

The police were called to a home in the state of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning. Dehat Police Precinct in-charge Sunil Khemaria said the accused, identified as Shaukeen Adivasi, was drunk at the time of the incident. Adivasi was quarrelling with his wife and also beat her up several times, Khemaria told the Press Trust of India.

Their son, who was sleeping in the same room, woke up after hearing the noise. The boy then tried to shield his mother from his father, following which Adivasi got furious and assaulted the boy. He banged the child's head against the wall, Khemaria added.

The child immediately died on the spot. Seeing the boy dead, the accused fled from his home. The police have launched a search for the accused, and a case of murder has been registered against the father. The accused is yet to be arrested.

The accused suspected his wife of having an extra-marital affair, local media TV9 reported [Google Translate showed]. The neighbors told the police Adivasi himself lived with another woman in a different house. An investigation is underway into the incident.

In another case of domestic dispute this week, a father killed his 6-month-old baby by smashing him on the floor.
