  • Manchester United's Jesse Lingard has only started in two matches this season
  • The Red Devils reportedly want to sell him in the next transfer window
  • West Ham boss David Moyes comments on the midfielder's situation

A wantaway Manchester United midfielder could finally see his way out in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite the change in the coaching staff, Jesse Lingard’s situation as part of Manchester United seems to have not changed one bit, having started in only two matches to date.

With his name constantly linked to a move away from Old Trafford, it appears that he will finally get a verdict from the club this winter.

The 29-year-old has six months left in his contract and Manchester United is “not expecting” him to leave in the January transfer window.

He is “free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs next month,” but the Red Devils “would prefer” to cash-in on his transfer rather than lose him for free, Manchester Evening News reported.

The report also noted that Lingard is still unhappy with his lack of playing time, and “discussions over a new contract” have “ended last month.”

He has been linked to a return to his former loaning club West Ham United on a permanent deal, but the report added that the midfielder wants to see how things will play out until the end of the season.

It can be recalled that after Lingard’s successful loan spell at West Ham last season, Hammers boss David Moyes has expressed his desire to have him in his squad for good.

However, then-Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that the English winger will only be there on loan.

Earlier this month, Moyes commented on Lingard’s situation once again.

According to Moyes, he is “disappointed” with how Manchester United has been wasting Lingard’s talent but also admitted that he can’t do anything about it.

"I can't really talk about him because he's a Manchester United player and it's not for me to talk," Moyes told Sky Sports. "But he was really good for us. Jesse [Lingard] knows what we all think of him here. My disappointment for Jesse would be, I think he's such a talented football player and he's not playing.”

"He played a big part in our second half of last season,” the manager continued. “But you'd have to give credit to the players here, they've moved on without Jesse. People might have thought Jesse made a difference here. But the players have moved on and stepped to another level themselves. But I've got to say, Jesse was a big part of that."
