  • Manchester City has put RB Salzburg's Patson Daka on its radar
  • Daka is hyped as a striker who is arguably better than City's top target Erling Haaland
  • Citizens boss Pep Guardiola might address transfer talks regarding the Dortmund star in two weeks

Manchester City could be looking to seal a deal for a tremendous goalscorer from a non-English Premier League club.

With a transfer deal for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland still believed to be a top priority, Manchester City is also mulling over a swoop for Red Bull Salzburg striker Patson Daka, German outlet Salzburger Nachrichten reported.

According to the report, the Citizens are set to battle Manchester United and Arsenal in chasing Daka, who has been perceived as a prolific striker who is arguably better than Haaland.

The 22-year-old forward has been playing some of the best seasons of his career, bagging a whopping 47 Bundesliga goals in four seasons, with 20 of which coming from the ongoing campaign alone.

Apart from his nose for goals, Daka is also known for his versatility, having been able to play all positions in the frontline.

The Zambian’s current deal with RB Salzburg is set to expire in 2024, but Premier League clubs are said to be keen on signing him sooner rather than later.

Daka is expected to be worth around the region of €20 million ($24 million). However, his fine form in the past two seasons at Bundesliga could see his value increase significantly.

As for Haaland, Manchester City is still being linked to a raid for the Dortmund star at the end of the season.

Due to the widespread rumors swirling around the English top-flight regarding Manchester City’s apparent interest in Haaland, Citizens manager Pep Guardiola insisted that he “cannot answer this question” at the moment.

However, things may have been advancing a bit as the renowned coach has now admitted that he has seen some of Haaland’s “highlights.”

While Guardiola has yet to confirm Manchester City’s real stance on Haaland, he seems to know the Norwegian youngster a bit better due to his recent exploits.

“The numbers speak for itself,” Guardiola said of Haaland. “He's one of the best strikers in the world right now at his age. I saw a few games, I didn't have much time but the highlights, the numbers in the Champions League and the [Bundesliga] league are impressive. I know the quality of this player, everybody knows.”

“In two weeks, I could answer better because I didn't see much,” he added. “[Borussia] Dortmund, [Raphael] Guerreiro, [Axel] Witsel with experience, the quality of Jadon Sancho, [Gio] Reyna. There are many good players, the quality, they decide to invest in good young players paying good wages and good salaries for agents. They have a lot of quality."
