  • Man City have approached Man Utd to sign Sanchez
  • Sanchez currently is on loan at Inter Milan
  • Even Inter Milan are looking to sign the forward permanently

Manchester City reportedly have approached rivals Manchester United to sign Alexis Sanchez ahead of the summer transfer window.

Pep Guardiola and Co. were close to signing Sanchez from Arsenal in the summer of 2017 but the deal could not go through. However, during the January transfer market in 2018, Man Utd signed the Chile national for a fee of $17 million.

Unfortunately, the signing backfired for the Red Devils as Sanchez managed only five goals after making 45 appearances for the side. Ahead of the 2019-20 season, Man Utd loaned Sanchez to Italian side Inter Milan, where he has scored three goals in an injury-hit run.

Man Utd now are looking to get rid of Sanchez permanently but it will be difficult to find a side that would be willing to pay Sanchez’s reported transfer fee of $21 million apart from his weekly wages of $507,000.

According to Chilean newspaper La Cuarta, Man City – in a move that has shocked many – have contacted Sanchez’ representatives to find out what the forward has demanded during his recent negotiations with the Serie A side Inter Milan.

It is believed that Inter Milan are planning to extend Sanchez’s loan so that he is available for their Europa League matches next month. Inter are due to face Getafe on Aug. 5 in their last-16 second leg fixture in the European tournament. Inter could face off Man Utd in the final, which is scheduled to take place on Aug. 21. It has also been reported that while the Italian side is considering signing Sanchez permanently, it is not willing to meet Man Utd’s asking price for the 31-year-old.

Although Sanchez’s majority of the Serie A season was hit with an ankle injury, he was impressive when the league restarted in June after the three-month coronavirus break, scoring two goals and providing seven assists in 10 appearances.

Sanchez, who made his senior debut in 2005, was a key part of Barcelona between 2011 and 2014, where he scored 47 goals in 141 matches across all tournaments. He was even better with Premier League side Arsenal, where he scored 80 goals in 166 competitive matches.
