Months after recovering from a left knee injury, Sergio Aguero has made his return to action for Manchester City in their 1-nil rout of Arsenal on Saturday, October 17.

Despite his stature as one of the top-tier booters on the team's roster, head honcho Pep Guardiola revealed that Aguero will have to work his way up the ladder again and earn his spot.

"Sergio now has to show, like every one of us, that he deserves to continue here - keep playing well, scoring goals and winning games - and after that the club and I will decide," he said in an interview with Sky Sports.

Manchester City's football manager stressed that getting Aguero’s groove back on the field is one of their top priorities.

“The important thing is that Sergio comes back in good physical condition, starts to get his rhythm, doesn’t get more injuries and plays good,” Guardiola stated in a report by Goal.

Aguero is now in the final year of his deal with the team and is free to sit down and negotiate with other clubs.

The 32-year-old has been with Manchester City since 2011, with an estimated market value of $49 million. He mainly plays as a center forward and has been a significant scorer for the Sky Blues with 180 goals.

Though Aguero has to fight to regain the trust and confidence of his mother team, Guardiola still sees the Argentine as a vital figure in their bid for an English Premier League title.

“Having Sergio on the pitch, we are better, we are safer. We missed him a lot in important moments in the latter part of the season. Now, it is good news for us today that he is back," he pointed out.

Manchester City is currently at 10th place in the standings with two wins, two losses, and one draw. In the next outing, they will face FC Porto on Wednesday, October 22, in a group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
