  • Dortmund reportedly turned down a $155m-worth offer from Man Utd for Sancho
  • It is understood that Sancho's current value is less than that
  • Sancho is Man Utd's No. 1 target ahead of the summer window

Borussia Dortmund reportedly rejected a bid as high as $155 million for their star striker, Jadon Sancho, from Manchester United back in February.

Sancho, who joined the German side ahead of the 2017-18 season, has emerged as one of the most promising talents in Europe. He scored 20 goals in 39 matches, across competitions, for Dortmund this season.

The winger recently joined a club of decorated soccer players after he netted his career’s first-ever hat-trick. By scoring three goals in the Bundesliga match against Paderborn last weekend, Sancho now has scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in just 27 matches in the league this campaign. Sancho became only the fourth player to have scored 15+ goals and assists in a single league season after the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Eden Hazard.

With the impressive performances from Sancho, all the clubs now know that if they want Sancho next season, the 20-year-old won’t come for cheap.

It has been known for a while that Man Utd have made Sancho their No. 1 target for the summer transfer market. According to a report in Spanish media outlet AS, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Co. made a whopping offer of $155 million for the young German, which was easily way more than Dortmund’s believed valuation, but the Bundesliga side ended up rejecting the deal.

This happened before the coronavirus struck the financial market in soccer. While it is understood that the financial impact caused by the pandemic could see expensive players go for lower values, it is understood that Dortmund are being adamant about Sancho’s nine-figure price tag, which is expected to be around $112m, still less than Man Utd’s February offer.

The report further stated that Real Madrid, who are looking to add young players to strengthen their squad next season, are keeping an eye on Sancho along with Erling Haaland.

Several former Man Utd stars have expressed that the Manchester City academy graduate would be a perfect fit at Old Trafford. One of the Red Devil legends, Wes Brown, recently admitted that Sancho is like Cristiano Ronaldo and his arrival will bring “excitement and talent” to the club.

Speaking about what value Sancho could get to Man Utd, former defender Brown said, "Talent and excitement. We need someone exactly like that at the club. We’ve had them over the years and I’m sure if we were to sign him, he would bring that excitement back to the club. It would be good for the team as well.”

“We’ve had players like that in the past, like with Cristiano Ronaldo. They’re the type of player who draw three or four defenders out and make the game a lot easier for the other players. ‘If we could do it, it would be a brilliant signing,” Brown, who made a total of 362 appearances for the Red Devils, further added.
