  • Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is unimpressed by United's recent signings
  • Redknapp said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs veterans who will improve his team immediately instead of young players
  • United signed Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles just before the transfer window closed

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not been making the right decisions for Manchester United this season.

On Monday, Redknapp discussed the downside of United’s decision not to push hard on signing the right players during the transfer window. According to the 73-year-old, Solskjaer should have been planning for the current season instead of building his team with future plans in mind.

"A very mixed bag [of players have been signed by Manchester United]," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "And Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], he needs players for now, not tomorrow. There are no tomorrows, tomorrows are way off. You’d imagine ‘oh, they have got a five-year plan,' there are no five-year plans, there is a six-game plan in this game."

On Sunday, the Red Devils suffered a humiliating 1-6 defeat against Tottenham and were handed their second loss this season. For Redknapp, Solskjaer needs to be smart when adding reinforcements and choose those who can improve his team immediately.

"You have a bad run of results, they are after you," the former Premier League boss said of Solskjaer. "We’ve seen it already this season. One or two clubs have spent money and it doesn’t take very long. A few bad results and you are under pressure, so he needs players for now, there is no long-term."

The domestic transfer window will remain open until 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 for English clubs. United is heavily linked to a move for Watford star Ismaila Sarr. But ESPN reported, citing unnamed sources, that the club is only open to a loan deal and has made it clear that a long-term transfer and obligation to buy clauses would not be accepted.

United was able to complete the transfers of Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles just before the transfer window closed. Both players said they were thrilled to move to Old Trafford and said Solskjaer was instrumental in their decision to join the club.

Ahead of the pair’s United debut, Solskjaer made his expectations for them clear.

"He’ll bring energy, power, leadership and a great mentality to the squad but, most importantly, he’ll bring goals," Solskjaer said of Cavani.

"Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United," the United boss said of Telles.
