  • Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly considering a Manchester United move next summer
  • Manchester United sacked Solskjaer after their 4-1 defeat to Watford this past weekend
  • Ten Hag has been linked to taking over at Manchester United a few weeks back

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has once again been linked to taking the Manchester United job after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired this past weekend, but it might take some time until then.

“Ajax boss Erik ten Hag would ‘100% be interested’ in Manchester United job in the summer. Ajax unlikely to entertain allowing him to leave mid-season. Ten Hag's contract is up in 2023,” as tweeted by Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth.

A few weeks ago, ten Hag was one of the heavy favorites to replace Solskjaer at Manchester United, but sources claimed that he was unwilling to leave Ajax in the middle of the season.

Manchester United upper management finally decided to call it quits on Solskjaer’s reign at Old Trafford after his side absorbed a frustrating 4-1 loss at the hands of Watford, in which team captain Harry Maguire was sent off the field for a reckless tackle at the 69th minute.

Ten Hag’s connection with the Red Devils is in place thanks to midfielder Donny van de Beek’s presence who had scored the lone goal against Watford for the talent-laden but middling Red Devils side.

Manchester United fans expect that the search for Solskjaer’s successor will take the rest of the season as they have named club legend Michael Carrick as the interim manager with former Red Devils standout and current technical director Darren Fletcher assisting him.

The Red Devils are in rough waters right now as they prepare for their second matchup with Valencia on Tuesday, November 23 in the UEFA Champions League group stages.

A win over Valencia practically secures the Red Devils a spot in the next stage, while a draw would need them to get the win against the Young Boys on December 8.

After the Valencia fixture, Carrick will have to guide his team towards a favorable outcome against Chelsea when they meet on Sunday, November 29 in an English Premier League matchup.

Ten Hag remains the number one manager to replace Solskjaer as other candidates like Brendan Rodgers of Leicester City and Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino are unlikely to leave their respective clubs mid-season.

Manchester United will need to survive for the next six months as they hope that either of the aforementioned names or someone else steps in and agrees to take command of the ship moving forward.
