  • The three managers linked to Manchester United have varying degrees of interest in taking over the job
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's fate hangs in the balance as management considers sacking him this week
  • Antonio Conte is the projected frontrunner, but there are concerns surrounding his integrity

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time at Manchester United could be coming to an end but the names linked to take his job are not too keen on doing so.

It was reported by multiple sources that Leicester City’s Brendan Rogers, former Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane are on the list to take over the managerial role at Old Trafford.

Caught Offside exclusively reported that the Leicester City boss has been heavily linked with Manchester United.

However, Rogers has his eye on Pep Guardiola’s job at Manchester City, who is believed to be targeting an exit from the Etihad Stadium in 2023 instead.

Conte is very much open to taking over the reins at Manchester United but has hesitations about the team’s structure, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Italian manager would want to be reassured first regarding the direction of the club with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward tendering his resignation, as reported to them by their sources.

Caught Offside also reported that there are concerns of Conte’s integrity as their sources alleged that the Italian manager was under investigation for his under-the-table deals during his time with Chelsea from 2016 to 2018.

Meanwhile, a recent tweet from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has Conte wanting the Manchester United job for quite some time now, but an official offer has not been fielded towards him.

Despite being linked to Cristiano Ronaldo as his coach at Real Madrid, Zidane taking over the managerial position at Manchester United is far from his mind, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The uncertainty surrounding Solskjaer comes after the Norwegian manager led Manchester United to the worst home loss in its history with a 5-0 beating from its archrivals, Liverpool.

Before Mohamed Salah scored his hat-trick at the 50th minute, Liverpool’s fifth goal of the match, Manchester United fans voiced out their displeasure by booing the team heavily as they went into the locker room for halftime.

Manchester United has not produced a win in their last four English Premier League matches, with five defeats coming in their last nine games across all competitions.

The arrivals of highly touted world-class talents Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane were seen as moves towards aggressively competing for a title this season.

But when Cristiano Ronaldo made it clear that he was returning, Manchester United fans were expecting a dominant run to multiple silverware but have only been rewarded with heartbreak.

Their 1-0 loss to West Ham United in the English League Cup was a sobering punch to the mouth of their expectations.

With the wealth of talent at Solskjaer’s disposal, he has failed to produce a worthy title-contending team and it could lead to his sacking ahead of their match with the Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, October 31.
