  • Cristiano Ronaldo teamed up with Bruno Fernandes when he returned to Manchester United
  • Fernandes has a great relationship with Ronaldo, but they do have a language barrier
  • Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thrilled to have the pair on his squad

Bruno Fernandes has one major dilemma about Cristiano Ronaldo that fans are not aware of.

On the pitch, Fernandes and Ronaldo may have been the perfect dynamic attacking duo. However, outside of it is where the problem lies.

Apparently, Fernandes has been dealing with a unique situation with his compatriot all these years.

Contrary to what many may expect, it has nothing to do with football. Instead, it is an unusual language barrier.

According to Fernandes, despite being both Portuguese, the native language Ronaldo uses when he speaks is “one of the worst Portuguese” dialects.

This makes it very hard for him to communicate with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

"I like the way you talk because in Portugal it’s the same,” Fernandes told Jesse Lingard in a recent episode of KFC UK and Ireland’s “Wingmen” show. “Some words in Portugal, if you ask Cristiano he will say me and Diogo we speak in a different way to him.”

"His original way is one of the worst Portuguese way,” he continued. “Cristiano, from Madeira, oh my god, you swear Portuguese people cannot understand what they say."

Nevertheless, Fernandes and Ronaldo did not let the said language barrier affect their harmony on the pitch.

The pair has remained Portugal’s top performers in recent times and is now doing it at Manchester United as well.

Even their relationship beyond football is believed to be perfect. In fact, Fernandes even “cheekily claimed credit” for the sensational return of Ronaldo to Manchester United this past summer.

Unlike other co-stars, Fernandes and Ronaldo seemed to have learned how to share the spotlight.

It can be recalled that Fernandes was even one of the Manchester United players who were excited about having Ronaldo in their squad.

“Everyone knows what Cristiano Ronaldo brought for the club and we are really happy to have him,” Fernandes told NBC Sports during the offseason. “The most important thing, as he will say, is the team. Good players can always play well together.”

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, on the other hand, also acknowledged the pair’s chemistry which started in Portugal.

“Good players can always play together [it’s right],” Solskjaer said, agreeing to Fernandes’ comment about Ronaldo. “They have a mutual respect and play for Portugal together. It’s changed [the atmosphere]. A few months back you think how it was here. This is what Man Utd supporters should feel like.”
