  • Ralf Rangnick has revealed his stance on transfers

Manchester United is in bad shape and is expected to pounce on the best talent available in the current market.

The past year has been tough for the Red Devils, and rumors have linked them to certain transfers this Januaryd window.

Recent reports state that Manchester United is plotting a swoop for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves.

An agreement has yet to be reached but according to The Sportsman’s Peter O’Rourke, talks are still ongoing for the Portuguese’s potential move to Old Trafford “this month.”

"[Manchester] United are still interested in signing hi [Neves],” O’Rourke told Give Me Sport. "There are no concrete plans to make additions at United this month, but they are in open dialogue in case he could be brought in to boost their season."

Neves has been a regular in the Wolves squad since joining the club in 2017.

Aware of the interest from rival clubs, Wolves manager Bruno Lage emphasized early on that his plan is to not let go of anybody in his current squad, including Neves.

“The main point for January is that everyone should continue with us,” Lage said in November. “For me, no one goes. Everyone continues with us. Maybe we need one or two players to improve our squad.”

Rumor has it that Neves’ national team co-star Cristiano Ronaldo “can play a huge part” in his possible move to Manchester United, having been represented by the same agent in Jorge Mendes.

On the opening day of the January transfer window, Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick addressed the situation of his club.

Despite the rumors, Rangnick insisted that transfers are not his priority at the moment.

Instead, the coach is certain that the most important thing is to manage the club correctly while establishing a “good relationship with the players.”

“To speak about future players coming into the club doesn’t make sense at this stage when we have to find out which player is in which position, the best possible solution for every game,” Rangnick told Sky Sports News. “Right now for me, it doesn’t make sense to think about future players. My full focus is on the current squad and to find for each game the best possible formation and line-up.”

“This is always about man management, having a good relationship with the players,” the manager added. “But also be aware that you’re the one to take the decisions--‘Who is going to play,’ ‘who will be substituted,’ ‘who will be on the bench or possibility not even make it into the squad for the next game.’”
