Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has beaten Liverpool FC's January transfers Virgil van Dijk and Luis Suarez to be voted the best January signing ever in the Premier League history.

Fernandes moved from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United during the 2020 January transfer window. He made his Reds debut during Manchester United's goalless draw against Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday. To mark his one year at Manchester United, BBC Sport ran a poll last week and asked their readers who they thought was the best signing since the introduction of transfer windows in 2002.

Fernandes grabbed an excellent 31% of the vote, beating Liverpool center-back Van Dijk, who was signed by the Anfield side in January 2018, according to Manchester United's official website. Former Liverpool forward Suarez, who moved from Ajax to Anfield in January 2011, finished fourth in the list.

Here's the voting breakdown:

  • Bruno Fernandes (Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United, 2020) - 31%
  • Virgil van Dijk (Southampton to Liverpool, 2018) - 26%
  • Nemanja Vidic (Spartak Moscow to Manchester United, 2006) - 15%
  • Luis Suarez (Ajax to Liverpool, 2011) - 13%

Manchester United signed Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon for $64 million, plus add-ons and the Portuguese midfielder made a massive impact on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side within a short time. In his first month as a Red Devil, Fernandes scored a goal in Europa League, while he scored once and provided two assists in the Premier League. As a result of that effort, Fernandes was voted as the Premier League Player of the Month for February.

He went on to help Manchester United finish third in the 2019-20 Premier League table and thereby marked the side's return to the Champions League. He finished his maiden season at Manchester United with 12 goals in 22 competitive matches.

In the ongoing season, Fernandes has scored 17 goals across all competitions, including 12 in the Premier League. He also set up 12 goals for his side, including the two assists he provided in Manchester United's 9-0 victory over Southampton at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Overall since his Man Utd debut in February 2020, in 54 matches across all competitions, Fernandes netted 29 goals for the Red Devils along with 20 assists.
