  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is pleased with Manchester United's decisive win over Leeds United
  • Solskjaer says they could've doubled the output
  • The Norwegian is still satisfied despite his primary strikers not scoring a single goal

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is too thrilled with their latest victory, claiming they could have thumped Leeds United even more.

A shocking three-minute brace by Scott McTominay, two more goals courtesy of Victor Lindelof and Daniel James, a converted penalty, and a sensational goal from Bruno Fernandes saw Leeds being humiliated at Old Trafford on Sunday.

But despite the incredible goal-scoring performance, Solskjaer boasted that the game against Leeds was the “kind of game” where his squad could have bagged an unrealistic number of goals.

“It could have been 12-4. It was that kind of game,” Solskjaer said after Man United’s 6-2 win over Leeds. “That was fantastic from the first minute–we had a plan to get after them, go forwards when we had the ball and Scott McTominay got two goals in the first three minutes.”

Manchester United had its revenge on Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, who recalled his Athletic Club’s epic win over the Red Devils in 2012 ahead of the Sunday’s match.

For Solskjaer, the triumph over Leeds should be written in history books.

“We found a way of getting them going–just imagine if there were 75,000 people in, it would have gone down in history as one of the great performances against Leeds,” the Manchester United boss explained. “We had to earn the right by running as much as them, that’s a challenge. I enjoyed it, it was frantic, hectic. No matter what the score is they have a certain attitude or style, if they are 5-0 up or down.”

Ironically, Solskjaer’s “main strikers” did not contribute to the Red Devils’ six-goal stunner. Nevertheless, the 47-year-old is still “very happy” with the way his attackers performed.

“I’m very happy with the way we created chances–our skill, some fantastic moves,” the Norwegian stated. “But yes, sometimes you look at it and think, ‘Put the ball in the goal.’ But I can’t be greedy, Mason [Greenwood], Anthony [Martial] and Marcus [Rashford] didn’t get on the scoresheet and they’re our main strikers, so this is good.”

Manchester United will face Everton for a must-win EFL Cup quarter-finals match on Wednesday. Currently, Solskjaer’s side is in a comfortable place at No. 3 in the English Premier League standings, but the manager assures that there is no room for complacency.

“We are not even at the halfway point,” he stressed. “The league position is not something we look at–we look at the improvement of the team. Now we are getting fitter and stronger. Our fans needed that one.”
