Manny Pacquiao's new opponent has confirmed that his fight with the Filipino boxing legend is already being negotiated.

The highly anticipated Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch now has another reason to be postponed. According to one of Pacquiao’s three possible next opponents Mikey Garcia, the Pacquiao vs. Garcia match is already under negotiations.

In a recent talk with FightHype.com, Team Garcia’s Peter Garcia confirmed that the fight with Pacquiao is already in talks. According to Peter, Mikey has been training extra hard for the fight and even his whole family is really rooting for a bout against the Filipino legend, Boxing News 24 noted.

“Whenever he doesn’t have a fight, he spars two times a week…but since two weeks ago, he’s been coming five times a week. My grandpa said, ‘He’s going to get a date soon. He doesn’t come on Tuesdays when he doesn’t have a fight coming up.’ It’s still in negotiations. It’s a fight that me, my dad and my grandpa like at welterweight,” said Peter about Pacquiao being a good fight for Mikey.

Shortly after Pacquiao defeated Keith Thurman, his long-time trainer Freddie Roach also had thoughts of Pacquiao vs. Garcia. In a brief media scrum, Roach said that he would “love” to see Pacquiao fighting Garcia and is confident that his fighter will “destroy” the younger Mexican boxer.

“Mikey Garcia is he out there? I love that fight, I like that fight for Manny,” Roach said.

“I think Manny destroys (Garcia),” Roach added.

With Pacquiao-Garcia reportedly being discussed, it will surely hinder the highly talked-about Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch. Prior to the negotiations, Floyd Mayweather was reportedly involved in another exhibition match in China.

Reports claimed that Mayweather will be holding a boxing match in China next year. According to a source, a press conference will make the announcement and they have already got the temporary approval of the Hainan government for the event.

The media invitation also noted that the match is a way of “enhancing” the existing friendship between U.S. and China.

“This match aims to enhance the friendship between two powerful nations through boxing, gaining popularity for Hainan in the role of an international tourism island and achieving Mission Hills’ vision of bringing world-class sports events to Haikou,” the media invitation said.

However, even though the match in China has taken a step closer to fruition, Mayweather still has to make it official on his part. “But everything needs to be confirmed with Floyd as well. The details are not 100 per cent confirmed yet. We are in the process of negotiating details with Mayweather’s management,” the spokesperson clarified.
