The 2021 Masters are underway with golfers looking to win this year’s green jacket. Some of the favorites in the field don’t tee off until later Thursday, allowing a few long shots to start the first round at the top of the leaderboard.

More than five hours after the official start of the tournament, Hideki Matsuyama is tied for the best score of anyone competing at Augusta National Golf Club. The PGA's 25th-ranked player is 3-under-par more than halfway through the first round.

Will Zalatoris and Si Woo Kim have also been hovering near the top of the ever-changing leaderboad.

A handful of players have been tied for second at two-under-under in the very early going. Kevin Kisner, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Bernd Wiesberger are only a shot off the lead. Bezuidenhout and Kisner are 35th and 36th, respectively, in the world golf rankings. Wiesberger comes in at 54th overall.

An earlier tee time gives some of the lesser-known players in the field a chance to make a name for themselves. Cameron Champ, who ranks 86th in the world, is one of several golfers sitting at one-under-par. Champ has two career PGA Tour victories with no finishes better than 10th at a major tournament.

Co-favorite Bryson DeChambeau tees off at 1:36 p.m. ET. Justin Thomas starts his tournament 12 minutes later. Jordan Spieth is part of the last group to tee off at 2 p.m. ET.

The 50 players with the best scores will make the cut and continue competing at Augusta in the third and fourth rounds Saturday and Sunday.
