  • Friends reunion is going to air on May 27
  • The cast came together for an interview to promote the show
  • Matthew Perry's speech was slurred at times during the interview

The much-anticipated reunion special of "Friends" is all set to air on HBO Max on May 27.

However, a recent interview to promote the special has left fans worried about the health of Matthew Perry, who played the beloved character Chandler Bing on the show.

The actor seemed quite awkward in the video clip and even stammered at one point. When he was asked if he ever took a souvenir from the set, the 51-year-old said, “I stole the cookie jar that had the clock on it.” The actor's pronunciation of the word "stole" with a heavy "sh" sound has alrmed fans.

Perry has been vocal about his struggles with substance abuse in the past. During BBC Radio 2 in 2016, he admitted he was in a rough shape because of his addiction. In fact, he even said, "I don’t remember three years of [the show]. Somewhere between Seasons 3 and 6… I was a little out of it."

In 2013, he had told People Magazine, “I couldn't stop. Eventually, things got so bad that I couldn't hide it, and then everybody knew.”

Although his slurry speech was a little worrying, Perry looked healthy in the video. The castmates had the conversation flowing and the entire video was nostalgic. Everyone was smiling and giggling, and nothing looked awkward. But the worried fans took to social media to voice their concerns.

One fan on Twitter wrote, “Just saw People interview and can't believe how Matthew Perry looks like… seriously it breaks my heart.” While another commented, “Just watched @people exclusive interview clip of Friends casts and the time hasn’t been kind. I hope Matthew Perry is okay. Damn how much I love them.”

“It pains me to see Matthew Perry like this, he just seems off, gazing at the void, speaking slowly,” another added.

“Matthew has been through A LOT since friends wrapped up in 2004. be respectful instead of judgmental. hard block me rn if you think making fun of him is funny,” someone else tweeted.

Perry is now happily engaged to Molly Hurwitz, a literary manager, who also accompanied him to the reunion. The couple began dating in 2018, and got engaged last year.
