The Mega Millions jackpot continues to climb after the Tuesday night lottery drawing yielded no winners for the $242 million grand prize with a cash value of $175.4 million. However, there were plenty of smaller monetary prizes that resulted from the latest drawing.

The winning Mega Millions numbers drawn on Tuesday, Aug. 17 were 3, 6, 16, 38, 56, with a gold Mega Ball of 24. The Megaplier was 3X.

Since the jackpot went unclaimed, it will grow to $256 million with a cash option of $185.6 million. The next jackpot drawing will take place Friday, Aug. 20.

Although there were no grand prize lottery winners from the Tuesday drawing, a player from New Hampshire became an instant millionaire by hitting the Match 5, winning $1 million. If the person would have played using the 3X Megaplier, they would have won $3 million.

There were also a few players that managed to win impressive prizes. The latest Mega Millions drawing resulted in 11 players hitting the Match 4 plus the gold Mega Ball, winning $10,000 each.

However, none of those players hit the Match 4 plus the gold Mega Ball with the Megaplier, which means they missed the chance to win $30,000. The other wins from the night ranged between $2 and $1,500.

Mega Millions players who hit the jackpot have the option of receiving their winnings through a one-time lump sum payment or an annuity.

Those who select the annuity receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments, which increase by 5% every year.

Mega Millions can be played in 45 states as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
