There has been a lot of speculation as to why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle truly want to step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, and now, bookies are revealing that the reason some feel their planned step back is likely due to plans to expand their family.

According to bookmakers Coral, it is likely the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be announcing a second pregnancy this year, with their latest odds at 2-1 for the couple doing so.

“Nobody knows quite what the future holds for Harry and Meghan at the moment but our odds suggest a second baby is definitely a likely addition to the family in the near future,” Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead told Express UK. “We make it just evens this year that the couple announce they are expecting.”

The odds of a pregnancy announcement come on the heels of the couple officially announcing last week that they intended to step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, which has caused a flurry around the world as many try to understand not only why the couple intends to do so and what they see for their future, but also what it means for the future of the royal family as a whole.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” they said in a statement on Instagram. “It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.”

“We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages,” their statement continued. “This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. “We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting new step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties.”
