Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are the "big losers" in the royal family amid the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, a royal expert has claimed.

Queen Elizabeth II and the other members of the British royal family are still active in their duties despite the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been undertaking video calls for their patronages and sharing their insights on various causes.

Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, and Camilla Parker Bowles have also been spending their time in lockdown meaningfully by teaming up with Duchess Kate and reaching out to people isolated during the lockdown. Queen Elizabeth II also released a message to cheer everyone during the global health crisis.

While they have already stepped back from their royal roles, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also doing their part to help in their own way. In fact, they quietly volunteered to deliver hot meals to Los Angeles residents in need back in April in cooperation with the nonprofit organization Project Angel Food. However, according to royal expert Phil Dampier, Prince Harry and Markle have not gained the popularity and approval that other royals have been enjoying during the lockdown, making them the "big losers" in this crisis.

“I think the lockdown has been good image-wise for all of the royals, except for Harry and Meghan,” Dampier told Express.

“They are the big losers in this because they now look somewhat isolated and somewhat irrelevant in this country. They still might have a massive role to play internationally or in America but I think people just shrug their shoulders in the UK. They’re just not really interested whereas all the other royals have gone up in popularity and have also played their roles very well,” he continued.

Meanwhile, recent reports claimed that Prince Harry and Markle had already discussed their plans to leave the royal family even before they got married. Prince William’s younger brother had reportedly not been happy for a long time.

Prince Harry grew up under the spotlight, but several royal experts have said that he was a reluctant royal. The Duke of Sussex had reportedly always wanted to leave the royal family to live a quiet life. Thus, some were not surprised when the Sussexes decided to step back from their royal duties and move out of the U.K.

In related news, according to Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers, Prince Harry, and Markle had huge plans when they decided to move to LA. Many believed that the royal couple would accept speaking engagements and promote their own brand.

Myers was convinced that they could earn millions for a single gig. However, all their future ventures are reportedly still “up in the air at the moment” due to the pandemic.

“They had huge plans once they settled in Los Angeles... to set up their own foundation and now obviously these plans are in tatters,” Myers said.
