  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are prioritizing their privacy in Canada
  • The aggressive paparazzi culture is unheard of in the royal couple's new home
  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's neighbors are helping them out with their privacy

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly been enjoying their private lives in Canada with their 8-month-old son, Archie. But the couple’s demands for privacy could have an impact in their new home.

While speaking with Insider, Dean Jobb, the author of “Media Law for Canadian Journalists,” said that Canadians are not used to the kind of aggressive paparazzi coverage that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been receiving.

“This is new territory in terms of privacy law and media law in Canada,” he said.

David Fraser, a privacy lawyer, echoed Jobb’s statements by saying that while privacy laws exist in Canada, they haven’t been used that often because celebrities, royals, and public figures are not common. The paparazzi culture in Canada is also very different from the United States and the United Kingdom.

"I think many people would be sensitive and sympathetic to the Sussexes coming to Canada, which was, as I understand it, in order to avoid a repeat of what happened to Diana. It seems to me that the principal element that has prompted their radical change of lifestyle and radical change of status is because of the spotlight,” he explained.

But at the end of the day, it is reportedly unrealistic to assume that everyone will be respectful of Prince Harry and Markle’s privacy especially when residents don’t understand what kinds of consequences they could face if they breach it.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Markle have been doing everything they can to make sure that they will be safe in their new home. According to TMZ, the royal couple had new security cameras, fences, and barriers installed outside of their Vancouver hideaway.

And according to Entertainment Tonight, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s neighbors have also banded together to make sure that the royal couple’s privacy will be protected. Some small business owners have also put up signs telling the paparazzi that they are not welcome there.
