The early part of 2019 has been a bit of a transitional period for the British Royal Family. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting a child in the near future, all while preparing to move out of Kensington Palace.

The move will separate them from neighbors Kate Middleton and Prince William. Of course, this has led to plenty of Royal Family gossip, with speculation that the two royal couples are feuding in some sense. In an interview with Express, E! News chief correspondent Melanie Bromley said the separation is happening because of shifting roles within the Royal Family.

"William and Kate have a different purpose than Harry and Meghan and that is definitely going to impact the future of the house of Cambridge and the house of Sussex,” Bromley told Express.

It is true that the two royal couples will have fairly different roles within the family hierarchy in the next several years. William and Kate need to prepare for the reality that William could be king within the next decade or two. He is second in the line of succession and the person before him, Prince Charles, is 70 years old.

Queen Elizabeth II is 92. Prince William is said to be taking on more and more duties as she grows older. Aside from that, William and Kate have three children to raise, between the Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.

Meghan and Harry, on the other hand, only just got married less than a year ago and are due to have their first child in the next month or two. Harry is sixth in the line of succession, so it is significantly less likely for him to assume the throne any time in the near future.

Bromley said these reasons could explain the separation, not a feud, like some in the media have suggested.

"The idea that Kate somehow hasn’t been welcoming to Meghan is completely unbelievable because if anyone understands what Meghan is going through is Kate,” Bromley told Express. "That Meghan has come in and she thinks she knows how to do things better is also unbelievable."

Some, including actor George Clooney, have called out media treatment of Markle in recent weeks. Clooney said Markle was being “vilified” like Princess Diana.

Harry and Meghan are moving to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor soon. Queen Elizabeth herself is said to be the one who introduced the home to the couple.
