Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s home in Canada is surrounded with controversies.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently decided to step back from their royal roles. Following the bombshell announcement, Markle flew to Vancouver to reunite with her son Archie. Prince Harry stayed in the U.K. for a few more days to carry out some engagements and eventually fled to Canada to be with his wife and child.

There are claims that the Sussexes will be moving to Canada after leaving the royal family. However, according to locals, the royals’ new home was built on stolen land. So they are calling the attention of the royal couple and gave them a warning.

At present, Prince Harry and Markle are staying in a $13.5 million mansion in Vancouver Island. The estate was reportedly in a territory that was once robbed by the Brits and the furious native Americans want it back.

“Don’t ignore us. The land the house is built on is stolen,” Chief of the local Tseycum tribe Tanya Jimmy said.

“It was taken from us in treaties signed in the 1800s. Our people back then didn’t realise what they were doing. Land was taken for a few hundred dollars and our people would sign the treaty with an ‘X’ as they couldn’t read or write.”

Jimmy added that they have ancestors buried there and they didn’t get any money from it. For them, it is not right that houses like the one Prince Harry and Markle occupy are built in their area.

Despite Jimmy’s opposition about the home where the Sussexes are staying, she said that Markle would appreciate the place because women are the ones holding the community together. “We really are the glue,” Jimmy said.

Jimmy also shared the struggles in the area like how their bus service starts at 6 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m., describing it as a “world away from having drivers whenever you want.” She added that the residential school system split families and took young young people away and destroyed them to make them “Western.”

In related news, according to Daniela Elser, Kate Middleton is the biggest loser following Prince Harry and Markle’s exit. The future queen will often be pitted against her sister-in-law and the royal correspondent believed that soon the former “Suits” star will eclipse the future queen.
