Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were reportedly forced to give up royal roles.

In January, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were stepping back as senior members of the royal family. Prince Harry and Markle said that they will be working to be financially independent.

Following their exit, there were various opinions on whether they made the decision on their own or were forced. Royal expert Omid Scobie said that they were forced to do so.

“Getting on with the work has always been what it’s been about for Harry and Meghan, but behind the smiles of the photos has been a vulnerable couple who are still very much hurting,” Scobie said.

However, Aubrey Hansen disagreed. For her, Prince Harry and Markle made the choice on their own and the royal family wasn’t responsible for their decision.

“Let’s get one thing out of the way. The royal family did not force Meghan Markle and Prince Harry out. Anyone who believes that is delusional,” Hansen wrote.

“Members of the British royal family must abide by longstanding standards and meet particular expectations. Harry and Meghan didn’t want to live by them.”

She added that the members of the royal family must not exploit their position to earn money from outside sources. According to previous reports, Prince Harry and Markle applied patent for “Sussex Royal” brand. However, the Queen did not allow them to use it. Several supported the Queen’s decision because for them, it wasn’t appropriate for Prince Harry and Markle to continue using the royal brand when they have already turned their back from their royal duties.

Prince Harry addressed the issue in a previous speech. According to him, they took a leap of faith in stepping back because “there really was no other option.”

Prince Harry added that they hoped to continue their service without public funding. Unfortunately, it was not possible, so they quit.

“Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible. I've accepted this, knowing that it doesn't change who I am or how committed I am,” Prince Harry said.
