  • Melania Trump kissed a firefighter on the cover of a New York magazine
  • At that time, no one knew who Melania Knauss was
  • Three years after the cover was released, the FLOTUS married Donald Trump

Melania Trump once graced the cover a magazine where she was photographed kissing a firefighter.

In 2002, a lesser-known Melania Knauss posed in front of a New York magazine for its Valentine’s Day singles issue. At that time, not many people knew who the FLOTUS was and they didn’t also expect that she will become the future first lady of the United States.

It was only recently that journalist Matt Haber realized who the slender model on the cover of the magazine was, and he shared the photo on Flickr.

“Recently, the journalist Matt Haber learned (via this Flickr post) something that we at New York had forgotten: The female model we’d hired was a pretty young Slovenian named Melania Knauss, who had been dating a New York real-estate developer on and off for several years and married him a couple of years after that. We did not, at the time, expect to be working with the future First Lady of the United States. But we were,” he said.

The firefighter that Melania was kissing on the cover was Engine 7, Ladder 1 smoke-eater Daniel T. Keane, who was also working as a part-time model at that time. He shared details from the time that their picture was taken and said that they held the pose a couple of hundred times.

“The person who was doing my hair and makeup, they said, ‘Do you know who that is?'” he recalled. I don’t know any models, I really wasn’t into the scene. And they said, ‘That’s Melania Knauss … That’s Donald Trump’s girlfriend.’ And I said, ‘Oh, okay,’” he said.

Three years after Melania and Keane’s photo made headlines, the former tied the knot with President Donald Trump.

On Twitter, the FLOTUS was mocked for posing in such a classless manner.

“Such a classy FLOTUS (note sarcasm people),” Twitter user @clarebo_oz said.

“Another embarrassing 'Gotcha Moment' as young Slovenian model Melania Krause, aka Trump's wife, is seen kissing a young 911 WTC firefighter on the cover of 'New York' magazine. Geez!” Twitter user @fmarcanojr said.
