His partnership with Vanessa Lachey made headlines early on in Season 25 of "Dancing With the Stars," after he missed out on Week 3's performance due to alleged personal issues. Now, the celebrity Maksim Chmerkovskiy won his Mirrorball trophy with in Season 18 is speaking out about what it's really like to work with the pro.

Meryl Davis and Charlie White, who both competed on Season 18 of the show after winning gold medals at the Sochi Olympics, recently did an interview with Us Weekly, and during it, Meryl was asked about the reports that Maks and Vanessa had a serious "chemistry issue" early in the season, and when she was asked if she had any similar tension with him during their season, she admitted that there can be pressure while competing on the show, but that she adapted to it easily because she came from a competitive background.

"In a sport like figure skating, you definitely learn that addressing issues and facing things and challenges together isn't always a bad thing. Having pressure in high stress situations just comes with the territory," she said. "Approaching 'Dancing With the Stars' may have been a little easier for us because [it's] working with a partner, and really understanding how to work together for that goal that you both have in common and you both want."

News about Maks and Vanessa broke after he was absent during Week 3 of the competition, and she performed with Alan Bersten instead. Soon after, it was revealed that they had been butting heads during rehearsals, and it eventually became too much, with the pro dancer choosing to sit out the week as a means of coping with their issues.

"There's a big chemistry issue," sources said at the time. "They both have big personalities and that's not always the best recipe for a good partnership...They've been fighting a lot."

Shortly after, other members of the Season 25 cast confirmed Maks was back in the studio and would compete with Vanessa again during week 4 of the competition, which he did. Following that performance, he praised her on Instagram.

However, the two were later eliminated during Halloween night in Week 7, alongside Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Bella.

"Dancing With the Stars" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
