A July 4th boat party in Michigan has been linked to a coronavirus outbreak, spurring the Health Department of Northwest Michigan to warn the partygoers to monitor themselves for symptoms and to get tested if they feel sick or are in a high-risk category.

The party took place at the Torch Lake Sandbar in Traverse City, Michigan, NBC News reported. Pictures show dozens of boats at the spot and dozens of partygoers in the water -- standing close together and not wearing masks.

Because of the outbreak, the state’s health department has placed Traverse City under the “medium risk” for more cases.

Health officials are having problems doing contact tracing because so many of the partygoers don't know each other.

“The positive cases were not able to offer identifying information for all potential contacts and therefore we want to make the public aware that those who attended could be at risk for exposure,” the health department said in a state notice.

Michigan has seen a high number of reported COVID-19 cases, with about 70,000 confirmed cases and more than 6,000 deaths.
