A 3-year-old child, who was reported missing from a home in South Carolina, was found dead in the family swimming pool Tuesday night.

The officials from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office said the cause of death was yet to be ascertained.

The deputies responded to a home in Kettle Creek Road off Highway 78 as the family had called 911 about 15-20 minutes after they realized the child was missing.

The sheriff’s deputies were then joined in the search by Dorchester County Fire Rescue, Dorchester County EMS, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and Air 1, South Carolina DNR, and an FBI task force, Count On 2 reported.

Lt. Rick Carson said the child's body was found in the swimming pool, but it was unknown how the toddler reached there.

“This is an active investigation by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office,” the sheriff’s office said, WCSC-TV reported.

It remains unclear who all were present in the home when the incident took place.

The identity and sex of the child has not been revealed.

This is a developing story.

In a recent incident last week, a Florida woman lost her husband and two children after they drowned in their backyard pool. The victims were identified as 41-year-old father Jean "Wes" Fontus, his 5-year-old daughter Emmie, and 2-year-old son Tyler. All three were found unresponsive in their home in Hollywood, Florida. Emergency personnel who arrived at the scene attempted life-saving measures to revive them, but they were declared dead at Memorial Regional Hospital, NBC Miami reported.
