Christine Chiles, the missing mother of three, was found dead Monday in the Detroit River in an area not far from her home in Grosse Ile, Michigan. The body has been released to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, which is scheduled for Tuesday.

There has been no information as to how Chiles ended up near the river or her cause of death. An investigation is ongoing.

The discovery was confirmed by the Grosse Ile Police Department via the township’s Facebook page.

“The search was aided by members of the Wayne County Sheriff Department-Marine Division, United States Coast Guard, Woodhaven Police Department, members of Michigan Search & Recovery and more than 100 volunteers,” the post read.

Chiles, 51, had last been seen at 4 a.m. on Friday. Police believed that she may have been suffering from depression.

Authorities initially began searching Chiles’ home and its surrounding areas. After early searches failed, over 100 community volunteers came together to conduct search parties that combed most of the island.

Grosse Ile is located roughly 25 miles southwest of Detroit.
