There’s a strong chance that the 2022 MLB season will conclude with the New York Yankees and New York Mets meeting in another Subway Series. That’s what bettors seem to believe, at least.

Nearly half of the biggest bets for the 2022 World Series winner at Caesars Sportsbook have been placed on the New York baseball teams. Through 74 regular-season games, there are 91 bets of at least $1,000 for the Yankees or Mets to become this year’s MLB champions. The other 28 teams have received a combined 95 bets of $1,000 or more to win the 2022 World Series.

It isn’t exactly a surprise that the New York teams are being picked to win the title. They have the best records in baseball, potentially on their way to earning the No. 1 seeds in the American and National League. Because they’ve played so well, there currently isn’t much value in betting the Yankees or Mets to finish as the World Series champion.

The Yankees are World Series favorites with +420 odds at Caesars. The Houston Astros are second in the AL with +650 championship odds.

The Mets are second in the NL and fourth overall with +700 odds. The Los Angeles Dodgers have +450 odds and have been NL favorites since spring training.

The defending champion Atlanta Braves are a distant fifth with +1200 odds. The Braves trail the Mets by five games in the NL East.

The Yankees have played historically well, on pace to set the record for most wins in a single season. The Bronx Bombers leads MLB in runs scored, home runs, OPS, WHIP and opponents’ batting average. They have the AL’s best ERA.

No NL team has scored more runs than the Mets. When Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer come off the injured list, the Mets could have the best playoff rotation in baseball.

The World Series odds have improved for both teams since Opening Day, although they’ve always been among the favorites. The Yankees started the season with +1300 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. The Mets had +1500 odds for their first title in 36 years.

The Yankees might try to add another starting pitcher before the trade deadline. Mets owner Steve Cohen has proven that he will spare no expense in order to improve the roster.

The Mets have played in the World Series more recently than the Yankees, losing to the Kansas City Royals in the 2015 Fall Classic. The Yankees haven’t won the AL pennant since beating the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2009 World Series.

Derek Jeter was named the 2000 World Series MVP as the Yankees defeated the Mets in five games for their third straight championship.
