The very early projections suggest that the final 2020 MLB standings will look similar to last year’s playoff picture. Five of the six reigning division champions are favored to finish in first place in the upcoming 60-game season.

As co-favorites to win the World Series, the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are favored to win the AL East and NL West, respectively. New York leads the American League with a 36.5 over/under win total at Caesars Sportsbook. L.A. is first in MLB with a 37.5 win total.

Los Angeles has won seven straight division titles. The Houston Astros have the league’s second-longest streak with three consecutive division championships. Houston is the AL West frontrunner after a 107-win season in 2019.

The Minnesota Twins have the best odds to win the AL Central with an over/under of 35 wins. The Cleveland Indians, who won the division each year from 2016-2018, are their top challengers.

The NL East might be the best division in baseball. The Atlanta Braves are favored to win their third straight division title. Their projected win total of 33 is only a half-game better than that of the defending World Series champion Washington Nationals. The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies also have an over/under north of 30 wins.

The NL Central is the only division in which the reigning champ isn’t the sole favorite to repeat. It’s also the only division with co-favorites as the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds lead the way with identical over/unders (31.5) and World Series odds (20/1). Neither team made the 2019 postseason, and Cincinnati finished below .500 for the sixth straight year.

The St. Louis Cardinals also have a 31.5 win total, but they are third among NL Central teams with 25/1 World Series odds. St. Louis won the division last year and was swept in the NLCS.

The 2019 season featured three new division winners from the previous year.
