A man died after his charging phone exploded while he was sleeping in his room in the Indian state of Odisha on Sunday night.

Police said the man, identified as 22-year-old Kuna Pradhan, went to sleep after putting his cell phone on charge. The device exploded at night, however, the incident came to light only the following morning when his housemates found smoke inside the room. They rushed to the room and found the man lying dead with portions of his body and face completely charred. They immediately alerted the police who rushed to the scene and recovered the body.

Speaking to local media outlet India Today, a police officer said, "We have sent the body for autopsy and we are waiting for its report. We have registered a UD (Unnatural Death) case. We have also sent the scientific team on the spot. We will take action after the doctor's report. Whether it was accidental or it was foul play can be clarified after the detailed report comes.”

The exact cause of the explosion and the details regarding the cell phone brand were not known.

The incident comes a few months after a 12-year-old boy died after his charging phone exploded at his home in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The boy’s uncle heard the explosion and rushed inside the home to find the boy lying motionless. He took the boy to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced brought dead.
