  • Morata deal paves way for Suarez move to Atletico Madrid
  • Morata also reunites with former teammate and current manager Andrea Pirlo with Juve

Atletico Madrid will be taking in Luis Suarez with reports that FC Barcelona has agreed to sell the striker to Los Indios. It appears the deal was already forthcoming with Atletico sending on loan deal Alvaro Morata to Juventus.

According to BBC, Suarez agreed to a reduced salary with Atletico after a potential transfer to Juventus fell through. Passport issues were singled out as the problem and there were even claims that the Uruguayan had cheated on the Italian citizenship test.

But whatever problems Juventus had with Suarez is now moot. The 33-year-old is headed to Atletico and it appears they were already expecting that to happen. To make room for his coming, Morata was the unlikely candidate to be let go. He returns to the same club where he played two seasons.

According to Sky Sports, Juve will pay Atletico an initial $11 million for the season. Bianconeri will pay an additional $10 million next season if they decide to retain the 27-year-old Spaniard.

The contract includes an option to buy or Juventus. If Andrea Pirlo wants to keep the Spanish striker, Juve will need to fork out $52 million after the first season to make the transfer permanent.

Morata played for Juventus from 2014 to 2016. He accounted for 27 goals in total and helped Atletico reach the Champions League final in his first year. The 27-year-old won five trophies in those first two seasons with Juventus, the Coppa Italia (twice) and the Italian Super Cup. His final game was during the 2016 Italian Cup final where he scored the winning goal against AC Milan, Goal reported.

"Alvaro Morata had only spent two years at Juventus before Real Madrid recalled him to the Spanish capital. However, a lot can happen in two years and Alvaro certainly left an album of memories, filled with many spectacular moments: goals, celebrations, victories and trophies!” read a statement via Juventus’ official website.

From there, Morata also had stints with Real Madrid and Chelsea. With Atletico, he has 12 Liga goals to show in 34 games last season. Now he gets the chance to continue his success as he reunited with former teammate and current Juventus FC manager Pirlo.
