  • Last year, Motorola promised that it will release flagship handsets in 2020
  • Recently leaked renders show the first Motorola flagship in 2020
  • The new device offers support for 5G and more interesting features

Renders showing the alleged Motorola Edge+ flagship handset have been leaked, giving viewers the chance to see the company's return to the flagship category before it actually hits the shelves.

Last year, reports revealed that Motorola was planning to do more than just release a nostalgia-inducing device in the form of the clamshell known as the Razr. The Lenovo-owned tech company promised during the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit in December that it will “re-enter the premium handset market” in 2020, and will release flagship models.

Now, it appears that the flagship is nearing its release. Renders of a new handset, leaked by known leaker Stever Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) and PriceBaba, reveal that Motorola is indeed bent on competing with the current big names in smartphones.

What's the new device?

The new device, per Pricebaba, is called the Motorola Edge+, a 5G-capable device that features interesting features and a stunning design. This handset has the smallest punch hole, a beautiful bezel-less display, and more. Here's a quick rundown of its features.

  • In front

The renders reveal that the device uses a waterfall display that curves at the left and right edges. There are thin bezels at the top and bottom of the screen. There's a small slit at the top bezel for speakers, A punch hole the size of the selfie camera's lens sits at the top-left side of the screen. The punch hole is so small that it's barely noticeable. Certain wallpaper designs can completely hide it.

@OnLeaks said the display will measure between 6.5 inches and 6.8 inches, and will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner.

  • At the back

At the back of the phone rests a triple-camera setup, stacked vertically in a camera module located near the top-left side. A module housing dual-LED and a couple of sensors sit beside it. Two microphones, used for noise cancellation purposes, are also found at the back (one above the cameras and the other at the bottom).

The Motorola logo sits proudly at the center of the phone's rear side. Pricebaba noted that the ring encircling the Motorola logo has LED lighting, indicating that this might be used for notifications.

  • At the edges

The renders reveal that the Motorola Edge+ will feature buttons, ports and openings at the sides. The volume rocker and power button sits at the right-hand side; an ejectable SIM card tray, USB Type-C port, noise cancelling microphone and speaker grille can be found at the bottom; and, interestingly, a 3.5mm headphone port can be found on top.

The Motorola Edge+ will be powered by the Snapdragon 865, which offers support for 5G. This SoC will be backed by 8GB or 12GB of RAM.
