  • Motorola has announced the launch date for a flagship device
  • This device is believed to be the Motorola Edge Plus
  • The device is known by its rumored waterfall display

After taking a hiatus from releasing flagship smartphones, Motorola has finally announced that it will soon reveal a new flagship handset that features a waterfall display.

In a tweet, Motorola announced that it will reveal a new flagship device via an online event scheduled on April 22 at 11 a.m. CDT. The company didn't specifically mention the name of the device that will be launched during the said “e-vent,” but the short video accompanying the announcement showed a device with a curved-edge display.

Android Authority noted that although the tech company didn't mention the Motorola Edge Plus in the tweet, fans can simply expect it to be that device. Previous leaks coming from noted leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (AKA @OnLeaks) and PriceBaba reveal this to be so.

Here's what fans can expect from the Motorola Edge Plus once it is revealed soon.

Display

The device is expected to feature a waterfall display that curves at the left and right edges, which gives it the “waterfall” moniker. The display measures 6.67 inches, has a 90Hz refresh rate, and has 2,340 x 1,080 pixel resolution. The display has thin bezels at the top and bottom edges. There's a slit for speakers on top, and a punch hole for a selfie camera at the top-left side of the screen.

Innards

The flagship device is expected to come packed with a Snapdragon 865 SoC, backed by either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The device runs on Android 10. The chipset indicates that the device could feature support for 5G connectivity. It also shows that the device is more powerful than the new Razr foldable.

Other specs

The new Motorola Edge Plus is expected to feature other top-tier specs. It is expected to have a multi-camera setup at the back. This setup is said to include a 108MP camera. The device is also said to have a huge 5,170 mAh battery. The new device is also expected to feature a slew of Motorola apps designed to improve the user experience.

Interestingly, if the leaks are accurate, Motorola will not take the same step that Apple and Samsung took with their newer handsets and will include a 3.5mm headphone jack on the Motorola Edge Plus. This is great news for those who have invested in wired audio equipment such as pricey headphones. Of course, the company might still ditch the beloved feature in the future.
