Muhammad Ali’s grandson may be carrying his name but is surely making waves in his own way.

Nico Ali Walsh continues to prove that he has his late grandfather’s blood running through his veins as he improved his unbeaten pro boxing record to 5-0 with a KO win over Alejandro Ibarra Saturday, April 30 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The 21-year-old floored Ibarra in the very first round with a scorching counter right hand that landed straight to the Colorado native’s chin.

The referee in charge immediately called to stop the fight after seeing Ibarra unable to get back to his feet following the knockdown.

“I was setting him up with the right hand,” Ali Walsh said after the fight. “I noticed his left hand was going down when he threw the jab. I was trying to counter it, and that’s what I did… I just waited for that setup, and I saw it and I took advantage.”

Ali Walsh had already vowed to continue his grandfather’s legacy in the past.

Despite already beginning to make a name for himself, the young Ali reiterated that not one bit has changed in his mentality.

“This is just a testament to all the work I put in,” he pointed out. “Stuff like this happens when you put the work in.”

“I’m bringing my grandpa back to life, and that’s why mom gets so emotional because she’s seeing her dad again and hearing her dad’s name to me,” he continued.

No one knows if Ali Walsh can really live up to the hype of his namesake.

The only thing he’s certain about at this point is that nobody can ever exceed or emulate his grandfather in this sport and that is not what he’s trying to do either.

For Ali Walsh, Ali is Ali and he will be looking to build a “legacy of his own.”

"It's impossible," Ali Walsh told Sky Sports of emulating his grandfather ahead of the fight. "I want to continue my grandfather's legacy in the ring and outside the ring but while doing so I want to create my own path, a legacy of my own.”

“Nobody will be able to do what my grandfather did, nobody will be able to reach the heights that he did, I don't think. So that's not what I'm trying to do, I'm not trying to do the impossible. But even better, I'm trying to build off it and create my own thing."

Ali Walsh is being handled by veteran promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank.

According to Arum, the plan for Ali Walsh is to win more fights internationally before setting up a debut at the Madison Square Garden.
