The Muslim Brotherhood's poltical front has secured about 40 percent of the votes for its party list in the first round of Egypt's parliamentary election this week after counting so far, putting it ahead of other groups, a party source said on Wednesday.

Voting in Egypt's election is being held in three phases over six weeks. Of the total of 498 seats in the lower house up for grabs, two-thirds will be allocated proportionally according to party lists and the other third will go to individuals.

Official results from Monday and Tuesday's votes are expected later in the day.
